EAT-Lancet Commission

2019 commission proposing a "planetary health diet" intended to feed 10 billion people in 2050 within planetary boundaries, emphasizing plant foods (vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, nuts) with limited animal protein.

Also: EAT-Lancet, Planetary health diet

The reference diet allocates ~2,500 kcal/d with <14 g/d red meat, ~28 g/d poultry, ~28 g/d fish, ~250 g/d dairy, ~75 g/d legumes, ~50 g/d nuts. Aimed at simultaneously addressing diet-related disease and food-system environmental impact (greenhouse gases, land use, water, nitrogen and phosphorus flows). Adoption is contested for cultural, economic, and nutritional adequacy reasons (especially for B12, iron, calcium in low-income settings). MNHD Ch 114 incorporates the commission's framework.
