Exclusive Enteral Nutrition (EEN)
Use of formula as the sole nutrition source (typically 6-8 weeks) for induction of remission in pediatric Crohn's disease, with efficacy comparable to corticosteroids without growth suppression.
Also: EEN
EEN mechanisms include exclusion of dietary antigens, microbiome modulation, and provision of complete enteral nutrition. Polymeric, semi-elemental, and elemental formulas all appear effective. EEN is first-line in pediatric Crohn's per ESPGHAN/ECCO. Maintenance partial enteral nutrition (PEN) extends remission. Adult Crohn's response is less robust, though Crohn's Disease Exclusion Diet (CDED) with PEN shows promise.
