Elongation
Extension of a polypeptide during protein synthesis, or addition of two-carbon units to a fatty acid chain.
In translation, the ribosomal addition of amino acids to a growing peptide. In lipid metabolism, the cyclic extension of fatty acyl chains by elongases adding C2 units from malonyl-CoA.
