Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Chronic functional GI disorder characterized by abdominal pain associated with altered bowel habits, in the absence of structural disease.
Also: IBS
Diagnosed by Rome IV criteria. Subtyped as IBS-D (diarrhea-predominant), IBS-C (constipation-predominant), IBS-M (mixed), or IBS-U (unsubtyped). MNT includes the low FODMAP diet, soluble fiber, regular meal patterns, stress reduction, and probiotics in selected patients. Symptoms involve visceral hypersensitivity, altered motility, and gut-brain axis dysregulation.
