Medical Nutrition Therapy
Evidence-based nutrition assessment, diagnosis, and therapeutic intervention provided by an RDN to treat a medical condition.

MNT is the application of the Nutrition Care Process to disease management, distinct from general nutrition education. It is reimbursable by Medicare for diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and post-transplant care, and by many private insurers for additional conditions. MNT integrates nutrition prescription, counseling, and coordination of care, and is most effective when initiated early in disease management.
