Phosphorylation
Metabolic process of adding a phosphate group to an organic molecule.
Covalent addition of a phosphate (commonly from ATP) by kinases. Regulates enzyme activity, signal transduction, and substrate trapping (e.g., hexokinase phosphorylating glucose).
