Prediabetes

Glycemic state between normal and diabetes, defined by IFG (FPG 100 to 125), IGT (2-hour OGTT 140 to 199), or A1C 5.7 to 6.4%.

Affects ~88 million U.S. adults. Carries elevated risk of cardiovascular disease and progression to T2DM. The Diabetes Prevention Program showed that a structured lifestyle intervention with ~7% weight loss and 150 minutes/week of physical activity reduced progression by 58%. Metformin is second-line.
