Preeclampsia
Pregnancy-specific hypertensive disorder typically after 20 weeks' gestation, with proteinuria or end-organ dysfunction.
Severe forms include HELLP syndrome (Hemolysis, Elevated Liver enzymes, Low Platelets) and eclampsia (seizures). Risk factors: chronic hypertension, prior preeclampsia, diabetes, obesity, advanced maternal age, multiple gestation. Low-dose aspirin starting in early second trimester reduces risk in high-risk women. Adequate calcium intake (especially in low-intake populations) is also preventive.
